Multiple Identical Printers - Asking for driver for each
I have 3 of the exact same printer. I install the driver for 1 of them but when I plug in the other 2, it's asking for drivers for each of them. I'm guessing to create a new printer instance. Is there a way to force the OS to use the same driver for all 3 printers to avoid the prompt and manual install for all 3 printerts? Adam Ctrl+Z

I believe that you will have to install each printer with its own address. As far as I know you can only address one printer with an installation. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. I wish...these are offline laptop/printer setups for sattelite locations. The laptop can be paired with a different printer randomly. AdamCtrl+Z

Sounds like you have an unusual situation and I suspect you may not find anyone in these forums with a similar problem. You might be able to handle it with scripting, but since I don't do any scripting I wouldn't know how to go about it. You may have to hire someone to evaluate the situation. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. lol I'm developer by trade but I was hoping for an OS solution. Without disclosing too much, I work for the state. We have many sattelite locations where the printers reside but the laptops can be random but they typically try to be consistent. The main problem is that, on occasion, 1 or more of the 150+ laptops will require a reimage and, of course, the drivers go poof. Just trying to avoid the triage tickets. AdamCtrl+Z

Well, here's the big problem. We have 150+ laptops and around 60+ identical printers. Do I have to plug each laptop into 60+ printers and install the same driver to ensure the laptop will not be prompted for a driver when it plugs in? AdamCtrl+Z

Next question, is there a way to use a universal driver that can be put on an image? I'm getting a scary feeling each laptop will need to plugged into each printer and installed. Yikes! Anyone?Ctrl+Z

Have you looked at the possibility of a print server? That's about the only alternative I can think of.Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
