Multiple Homegroups on one computer?
Is there a way to set up more than one Homegroup on one computer? I like to take my laptop places, and share files over the network. Who doesn’t? The problem I have is you can apparently only have one Homegroup. So I have to either use my friend’s Homegroup at my house or manually configure and join at each location every time. Needless to say don’t care for the name of my friends Homegroup and manually doing it every time i change locations is a pain. Why did Microsoft have to DUMB DOWN networking? I never had as many problems with networking on W2K or XP. Because of this I have for the time being said to hell with the network I have many USB drives. All computers in Question are running Windows 7 Ultimate, mine are x64 and his are x32.

You can only be a member of one Homegroup at a time. If you use Homegroups to network you will need to leave and join Homegroups when you change location. Presumably you are using wireless to connect to the networks at the locations you visit. You can access shared resources through the wireless network by joining the local workgroup over the wireless network without using the local Homegroup. The network access credentials will be stored on your laptop and you will just need to log on to the local network when you change location. Some resources must be set as shared before you can join a workgroup. If there are no shared resources the workgroup will not be available to join.
