Our users frequently complain about being confused when they search their Lync contacts. It's because they use the Outlook Social connector and we have Sharepoint in our environment. So searching for a contact can often bring up 3 more "valid" hits. In the example I provide I see this contact 3 times because he's in my "Suggested Contacts", my Sharepoint Colleague, and in my Personal contacts in Outlook. If I have the social connector installed I will have a profile for him on LinkedIN and Facebook. Is there a way to limit this in Lync to only pull from the GAL in Outlook and ignore those other "locations" or connectors?
Hi John,
Lync performs duplicate contact detection by comparing the following properties of the Outlook contact and the GAL contact:
- SIP URI or instant messaging (IM) address
- Primary SMTP address
- All secondary SMTP addresses
I would recommend reading the Address Book chapter in the Lync Resource Kit for a better understanding on search result aggregation.

I understand from the chapter you referred to that certain attributes have to match for it to be merged. However, there isn't any way to put a secondary E-mail on your Sharepoint profile, and Suggested Contacts mainly are filled with users from my GAL so the primary e-mail address should be the same.
Hi,
Any updates?
The results of the ticket weren't impressive. Apparently this is a known issue with certain builds of the client. We were given a private build that fixed the issue on machines once we deleted the previously existing Lync Address books from the machine. This was supposed to be fixed in a future release. I have since upgraded my workstation to Lync 2013 and it works as intended.
Thanks for the reply!
any updates for 2010?
