MsiInstaller Errors
Equipment: HP Z400 Workstation (CAD Station) Processor: Zeon Quad Core 3.07Ghz RAM: 12 GB Had a user complain that she was getting an error about her Recycle Bin being corrupt. After further investigation it appeared that more than that was going on. I removed the Recycle bin successfully as per instructions on TechNet (Thank you!). However I am also attempting to remove Office 2003 Installation as they already have Office 2010. When I went to uninstall it I am getting Application MsiInstaller Event ID:1034, Error Status 1603. Tried to uninstall Google Earth (as a test), recieved an Application Log Error , Source: MsiInstaller, Event ID:10005 It shows Error 2502 and after that Error 2503 follows in subsequent entry. I then find that it will not let me uninstall anything at all, not just Office. Thought it might be a virus, so I ran the Local Trend Micro client scanner, found nothing. Ran Malwarebytes, found nothing. Ran Combofix, found a couple of Appdata entries, but nothing that seemed significant. Have made sure that all Updates have been applied. 80 person network, no other users are affected Any ideas where to start? I have tried researching the techblogs, but don't get anywhere. Thought I would try the forums. Ideas?Mark T. Kenny

have you run any of the basic fix scans... sfc /scannow and chkdsk?

on further research too it looks like it could be a permissions issue. What account are you using to uninstall these programs? Can you log into the local admin account and try?

Tried that too, with same result. BTW, sfc /scannow found no integrity violations, also ran scan disk, found nothing to fix.Mark T. Kenny

It would appear that all the rights have been stripped. I went to the security tab of the windows folder as local admin and found no rights assigned for either "System"Administrators" or Creator Owner" or "System" That would definitely cause a problem. My question then would be... what caused it?Mark T. Kenny

I'm not sure what would cause it without more information about your network. But im pretty sure if you assign the rights again you won't have those msi errors.
