Moving to a different PC....
I want to buy a copy of Windows 7, but I want the option of installing it on a different computer in the future. So, if I buy it and install it on my current computer, then format that drive; I want to be able to install it on a new/different PC. I'm NOT asking to have it installed on more than one computer at a time, but I do want to be able to switch it to a different PC. So......assuming that's possible (it was with XP), which version do I need to buy. I've heard OEM versions are ONLY for one machine, and I've heard you can't do clean installs with the upgrade version. So, if I buy the Windows 7 Home Full retail version will I be able to do this?

Clean install with upgrade media:http://blogs.zdnet.com/Bott/?p=1505&tag=col1;post-1505OEM licenses:http://blogs.zdnet.com/Bott/?p=1561&tag=col1;post-1561If you have an OS that qualifies forthe upgrade license, you may be willing to put up with the restrictions on the upgrade version in order to save some money. If you want to be able to move the license to a new PC, and want todo itlegitimately, you don't want an OEM license.

IF the OEM stays in the same machine after a major component change (M/B) it can be re-installed... will mean phoning in to MS to have ID reset.Full Version disc is always the ideal, the optimum choice. And you could easily do what you asked w/ one. It is, however, correct that one can do a "Custom" (clean) install via Upgrade disc.Clean installs aremore certain of good results than in-place upgrades.Drew - MS Partner / MS Beta Tester / Pres.
