Moving domain account to local user account
Hi All, Is it possible to move a domain account to a local account? What I mean by this is copy all the appdata, preferences, etc. I know there use to be a moveuser.exe supported by Microsoft, but this is no longer the case with Windows 7? Thanks

Hi, First, you cannot use the Moveuser.exe tool to perform these tasks on a Windows Vista-based computer, so Windows 7 is not support Moveuser.exe. You can refer to the following article: Moveuser.exe is incompatible with Windows Vista and is replaced by the new Win32_UserProfile WMI functionality http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930955 However, you can use USMT 4.0 to migrate local account to domain account instead. The User State Migration Tool (USMT) for Windows 7 is now part of Windows AIK and provides fast and flexible options to migrate user profiles and data from one operating system to another. You can download the AIK via the link below: The Windows Automated Installation Kit (AIK) for Windows 7 For your reference, Managing Users, Groups, and User Profiles http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc974331(WS.10).aspx Regarding to move domain account to local user account, you can check whether it works. http://www.shofkom.com/2009/03/14/how-to-convert-your-domain-profile-to-a-local-profile/ Hope it helps Vincent Wang TechNet Community Support
