Movies in MCE via Xbox 360 Freezing
Im trying to figure out why movies I am streaming wirelessly to my Xbox 360 are freezing up. Usually its well through a typical movie (~2h) close to the very end. It just completely freezes and after about 3-5 minutes, it tells me there was a connection error on a green screen. Usually when I try to connect to MCE again, it fails to connect. Wireless Connection ... I am running Vista Home Premium 32-bit and streaming over a Belkin USB 2.0 802.11g adapter to a Belkin router also 802.11g. There is direct line of site from the USB adapter to the router. The USB 2.0 adapter is connected to the PC via a self-powered USB 2.0 hub. The distance between the two cant be more than 10 paces. Running the network optimizer, I am just a hairline below HDTV level. Movie Format ... The movies are DVR-MS format converted from DVD format and typically about 4GB in file size. Ive played the same movies freezing up in MCE on the Vista machine and they play fine all the way to the very end credits. I play the movies through the Videos category in MCE. Firewall Settings ... I am using the stock Vista firewall and have checked the settings against the Microsoft site for MCE. The extender exception has been checked and the block all incoming connections has been unchecked. System ... Im running Vista Home Premium 32-bit SP1 on an HP Slimline s3223w. Its running on an Athlon 64 X2 4400+ 2.3 GHz with 4GB of RAM (3.5 being recognized). Graphics card is a Chaintech 8600GT 512MB DDR2. HD is a 150Gb Raptor. All drivers are up to date as well as a recent bios update. The movies are stored in a NexStar MX dual HD enclosure housing a 300GB and 500GB 16MB cache WD Caviar HDs. The dual enclosure is connected directly to the PC via USB 2.0. Observations ... I used to not have this issue at all. The changes to the system since then are few: 1) Vista SP1 update, 2) USB wireless adapter was upgraded to a higher version (otherwise its the exact same adapter), and 3) the movies used to reside on a single external enclosure and connected via eSata. I suspect #3 is not an issue since the network tuning feature in MCE would suggest that my current system has more than enough bandwidth to display the standard movies I am playing. Aside from which simple bandwidth math would suggest the same thing. Change #2 may be a culprit as Ive noticed that my internet connection is locked up after one of these freezes occurs. But I am hard pressed to believe that a newer version of the exact same adapter could cause such a headache. Which leads me to wonder whether SP1 is the root of the problems. Any advice or insight would be extremely appreciated. Thanks!

Hello Ronin, Sorry for waiting. We may be not the best support resource for Xbox related issues. However, Id love to suggest some steps to narrow down the problems scope: 1. Switch back to external enclosure; 2. Try to connect via a wired cable to synchronize the movie; 3. Use the following KB article to temporarily uninstall Windows Vista SP1 to confirm if SP1 causes the issue:(KB948537) How to uninstall Windows Vista SP1 as a troubleshooting stephttp://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;948537 Let us know the result if possible, thanks!
