Moved Program Files from C to D drive using symlink - moved My Music ect via Location now can see but not open program located on the C drive
Since i run an SSD as the main drive i wanted to move all unnessasary files to a hard drive. I sucessfully moved my music my pictures ect via changing thier location. The i use cmd via the Windows 7 disc and robocopied program files and program files (x86) to the D:(hard disk) drive. then i deleted the originals on the C drive, and finally used the symlink command to create links to the files on the D drive. When i booted back up and clicked on the link in the C drive it said the loacation was no longer there (using more words than that). i deleted the links than while running windows (not off the disk as i had done before) i created the links again. It works. Now i fins that i cant run programes based off the C drive. At this point the only Folders on the C drive is Windows NVIDIA and PerfLogs. Other things that are happening - when i try to open perfLogs ask for permision to continue i give it permision windows closes, but i still don't have permision - no media will play i get a class not registered. I tried using sfc /scannow but i can not run an administrator cmd window and when i tryed running it from the Windows Disk it said that their was an operation in proggress and the computer needed to be rebooted. Is their anything that i can do, as i would really like the program files off my SSD Thanks Butkick

Hi, Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet Forum. It is not recommended to change location of Program Files folder. If you change the location of the Program Files folder, you may experience problems with some Microsoft programs or with some software updates. Alex Zhao TechNet Subscriber Support in forum. You can only change the installation of new programs to go to D. I did it before, and then modified the registry so that everytime i installed a new program it would point directly to the new location. But as alex said above is not recommended to move them...Please do not forget to select the best answer if it helps you! The Ultimate computer newbie guide since the discovery of spoon feeding!
