Move vs. Copying Files in Windows 7
To begin, I am regretful I must ask this question because it seems so elementary and, no doubt, I'll kick myself when I get the answer. ;) Under XP, one may drag a file from one folder to the next and it will actually move the file. But, under Windows 7, the process copies the file to the folder selected, but leaves the original file in it's original location. For example, I save numerous work parts to my desktop for easy access while I'm working on them or for coming back to later quickly. At some point, I want to drag them into the proper folders and get them off the desktop. In Windows 7, I can't tell for sure the process worked unless I open the target folder and see! When the file is dragged to the target folder, it puts it into the folder and leaves the dragged file next to the folder on the desktop. It's driving me crazy.....How can I modify this behavior and have it move the file, not merely copy it?????? UPDATE: The behavior above is only with folders I've created shortcuts to on the desktop. If the actual physical folder is on the desktop, the file moves properly. Thanks!

well that behavior runs from win98 to present. when you drag&drop file or folder within the same HDD partition file or folder will be moved, but when you drag&drop from one HDD partition to another partition it will be just copied.
