Mouse stops responding when pc resumes from sleep (suspend to ram). Why?
Sometimes, when Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit RTM resumes from sleep, the mouse stops responding. It doesn't happen every time, it seems to be random. The mouse is Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0, with all the latest drivers. It's the only problem I have with the system coming back from sleep. The mouse is connected to an usb port, my pc doesn't have a ps2 port for the mouse. The mouse buttons work after sleep, but the pointer doesn't move. If I unplug it and plug it back in, it does come back to life. But I would like it to avoid this.

Hi CooperdaleThe only information we have with this behavior is that it was a known bug in the RC bersion and still exists to some extent in the RTM build. They are working on this and will hopefully have a fix in the form of a compatibility update. Until then, you will just need to deal with the unplg/plug to make it work.Regards.Thank You for testing Windows 7 Ronnie Vernon MVP

Ok, thanks. I hope it's fixed soon. Is it a problem with my mouse in particular, or does it happen with any mouse?

I also have a problem with Microsoft Intellimouse USB. After coming out of sleep, the mouse pointer does move, but only an inch or 2 at a time on the screen, and with many movement of the mouse. It can take 15 or 20 seconds to get from one side of the screen to the other. I am not in a hub - directly to a USB port on the back of the PC. Unplugging the mouse and putting it back in fixes it. I have tried different USB ports. The "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is not checked, andit is grayed out. I have no issues with the USB keyboard.RonRon

Same problem as RonWHarding. I am actually on W7 Home Premium 64but had the same issue with Vista 64 and XP. Other way to make it move properly is to send the PC to sleep again and wake it up with the keyboard. Problem seems to be replicable when u wake the pc by moving the mouse.

I have a similar problem. My mouse sometimes stops for a while a few seconds after I power up after sleep, and sometimes it stops working completely (its lights go out). Re-plugging it does not work, only rebooting the PC. I have a Logitech G5 mouse and Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

I had the same proble and found a fix and it's easy. Go to the device manager and then open the tab Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Then find the section with USB Root Hub. There will be many of them. I had 8. Right click on the first one and left click on properties. Then click on power. Under description you will be looking for your mouse. If it is not there try the next usb root hub untill you find the one that lists your mouse. Once you find it, click on the power management tab and uncheck the box that says allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. That fixed it for me. I'm no computer expert, but even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then. Oh, but if move your mouse to another usb slot, you would have to switch the power feature for the new slot.

Aloha, I am having the same issue. I am using a Dell xps420 desktop with windows 7. This computer was upgraded from Vista. I can not hibernate because it gets the "bsod" blue screen of death, so I don't hibernate. Howe ever, if I am away for to long, the computer goes to sleep, and I lose keyboard and mouse which is using a usb port, which is a known issue. I am just posting to complain, and to be notified if a solution is found. Just for the record, This computer is 3 years old and this computer always loses sound at random which was a known issue with vista and with Windows 7, and to this day it still loses sound with vista and with windows 7, which is incredible that a solution has not been found. Thanks, Manny

Just to keep the issue alive, I just purchased a new laptop with Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) installed. It worked for three days with no issues. Then, last night after coming out of sleep-mode, the mouse would not work. It is a Microsoft Wireless Intellimouse 2.0 using the latest driver from Microsoft's site. To resolve the issue, I try a wired Intellimouse that I had as well as a wireless Logitech mouse. I tried all three going through a USB-hub, and, then, directly into the USB port on the laptop. Nothing resolved the problem until I rebooted the laptop. However, I decided to turnoff the sleep- and hibernate-modes. While investigating the issue through the Internet, I discovered that there were power setting for the USB devices as noted by joeddmd. Just to be safe, I too turned off the USB power-saving mode as well. Hopefully, the problem won't re-occur. bcg

By now Microsoft has months of this "no mouse after sleep" problem. For me "Windows 7" has not crashed - except for this problem and "no keyboard after sleep" problem. This is very irritating! Yes, I have checked "power management" for my ps/2 mouse and I do not allow the power down setting. Please fix the problem. How many billions of dollars do you spend on R&D? I can not believe an understanding of this problem and a fix are too difficult. Is there some fundamental flaw? Am I going to have to buy "Windows 8" just to fix this one bug? Frustrated!Always Microsoft Problems

Win7 64, i7 quad. I have 2 $100 mice in a drawer I used for a few hours (gaming mice) but my hand just doesn't fit them. OTOH ...er OTSH (on the same hand? lol) my good 'ol Intellimouse fits perfectly. The only way I will give it up is to smash it on camera while I use foul language aimed at Microsoft.. For God sake (or any diety of your choice) - Microsoft - it's your own friggin mouse!!!!! It carries your logo!!! Jeeeeesh... Now, since I can still get to a few places using my tab key, If someone can show me how to make a shortcut to reload the mouse driver I think i could execute it (if it works on a reload). Thanks for letting me vent.
