Mouse freezes intermittenly
I have the same problem as clearly explained in the linkbelow. Depending on what I am doing from program to program the mouse may freeze in 5 min or 2 hrs or 6 hours. I tried to check the malware and hardware at the lpost below but the pages do not open up.I have gone into Safe Mode and for the few prograns I tried I did not have a problem. The first time I recall having the problem was after updating MS Messenger (not to long ago) one version back from the current update although that may have nothing to with it. I have full system back ups from a month ago when I did not have the problem and could restore some files if I knew what to restore.http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/xpperformance/thread/e2ce00a0-cdec-4ae6-a091-f216a3688b5bPLEASE HELP

Hi Macon21, ·What is the make and model number of the mouse you are using?·How have you connected the mouse to the computer? As the issue does not persist in safe mode check the behavior by booting the computer in clean boot state. You may refer the below link on how to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" state:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353If the issue does not persist you may continue with step 2 from the above link.Make sure you reset the computer to normal mode after the troubleshooting completes. Refer the section “Steps to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state” Regards:Samhrutha G S - Microsoft Support.Visit our Microsoft Answers Feedback Forum and let us know what you think.

SamhruthaI have now tried the "Download Guided Help" many many time over the last 2 days but I always get the same message "Guided help cannot be downloaded right now...try again later". Please tell me what I should do.A couple of other points that may mean something.1-After the cursor freezes if a few minutes fo by the computer will re-boot.2-Never seem to have the problem when I visit any sites on the Internet.3-EXAMPLE: I can be working in differant programs etc., go to various Internet sites, open MS WORD and make notes-save, go to various other programs, come back to WORD make notes-save and no problem. As I go alongI might come back to WORD make changes or save or scroll or do the same in some other program and the cursor freezes.Roger

Hi Macon21, 1. You may follow the manual steps (method 2) from the link I have mentioned and narrow down on the issue. 2. Adding to my suggestion, you may also try the steps from the below link: Troubleshoot a wireless mouse that does not function correctly:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/3211223. Also you may try uninstalling and reinstalling the mouse drivers, follow the steps below to access device manager and remove mouse drivers. Note: Before you uninstall and reinstall I would suggest you to create a system restore point manually, so that in case, something goes wrong while performing these steps, you may always perform a System Restore. To create system restores point: How to set a system restore point in Windows XP:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948247 a. Click on Start.b. In the Start Search Box type devmgmt.msc and press enter.c. Expand Mice and pointing device.d. Right click on Mouse device installed and click on uninstall. Note: after uninstalling the mouse from the device manager, it will not work. You will have to use the keyboard keys to restart the computer. Note: While uninstalling the device, make sure you place a check mark against "Delete the driver software for this device". e. Restart the computer and verify if it works fine.
