More Windows 7 RC 7100 woes.....
Well, all I can say is that Inever experienced any networking problems with Windows 7...until today, and I've been using Windows 7 for over 3 weeks now. Never had any problems with seeing any of the other systems on our network...until today. I'm not in a HomeGroup and all of the systems are in the Workgroup: MSHOME. For some odd reason it started: I could no longer see the other systems and they could no longer see me. I refreshed the Network Windows SEVERAL times...still could not see the other systems on the network, and they still could not see me. Rebooted Windows 7 several times: still could not see the other systems nor could they see me. Even went into the Router and rebooted it SEVERAL times, even power-cycled it SEVERAL times: still could not see the other systems nor could they see me. Went back and checked every possible setting and everthings was set correctly. Even ran the Networking Troubleshooter: it couldn't find anything wrong, but yet I still could not see the other systems and they still could not see me.Then.......all of a sudden.........after all the 40~50 minutes of bullspit, muss and fuss.......the other systems started appearing in my Windows 7 Network Windows, and the other systems were able to see me too.WTF.This is definately another strike against Windows 7 as far as I'm concerned.Never had any such problems with XP Pro....never.If it not one thing it's another. No sooner do I get Windows 7 working half way decent when along comes some other stupid problem. And Microsoft expects people to pay for this? Especially when XP Pro still out-performs Windows 7?Just plain sickening to even think about it.3 weeks and counting. I almost gave up Windows 7 for good. But, I hung in there. Wanted to make sure gave Windows 7 a fair shake. Well, I've given Windows 7, both 32-bit and 64-bit, more than a fair shake. Bottom line.....It's a piece of ____.GA P35 DQ6 Mb, Intel Wolfdale 8600 3.33Ghz C2D CPU., 4x2Gb Mushkin DDR2 1066 PC2 8500 Ascents Memory Mods., PNY-nVidia GE Force 8800 GTS (640MB), 4-Western Digital Caviar SATA(2) HDD's (internal), 1 EIDE-USB External; Hauppauge PVR 1600 TV tuner, Dual Monitor: (1) Standard up top, (1) WideScreen below; Altec Lansign Speakers...

David - Just out of curiosity... You say you couldn't see the other Windows boxes on your network and they couldn't see your Win 7 box - but could they see each other?

All the other systems could see one another. We've got6 other systems on our network besides one of my own (for a total of 7).2 are running XP Pro, one using XP Home, one XP Media Center Edition, one running Windows 98 and, the other Vista Home Premium. We have no problems seeing one another, sharing files, etc...I hadn't really got into the real networking use of Windows 7 till today. Been too busy. But I do remember seeing the other systems in the Networks folder so I didn't think there were any problems. Needed to use the Network printer yesterday evening. Had to log in to one of the other systems to set it up and use it. Problems is Windows 7 apparently stopped seeing the other systems including the one with the printer. The day before I had XP Pro up and running, found the system and printer on the network, no problems as usual. This a totally Windows 7 thing.Even more annoying is after Windows 7 decided to let me see the other systems, I was able to log on the system with the printer, I got the printing done that I needed, etc...., I shut Windows 7 down, came back on about an hour later, and was having the same problems all over again.GA P35 DQ6 Mb, Intel Wolfdale 8600 3.33Ghz C2D CPU., 4x2Gb Mushkin DDR2 1066 PC2 8500 Ascents Memory Mods., PNY-nVidia GE Force 8800 GTS (640MB), 4-Western Digital Caviar SATA(2) HDD's (internal), 1 EIDE-USB External; Hauppauge PVR 1600 TV tuner, Dual Monitor: (1) Standard up top, (1) WideScreen below; Altec Lansign Speakers...
