Modem no longer connects to Internet after Aug 2012 Microsoft Update
A few days ago I installed the Aug 2012 Microsoft updates and then couldn't connect to the Internet. What DOES still work: 1) my laptop still connects wirelessly to the modem/router. 2) my Android phone still connects wirelessly to the modem/router. 3) my Android phone still connects through exactly the same router to the Internet. (Thank you Google!) CONCLUSION: Microsoft has created the problem. OUTCOME: I'm tired of doing System restores to undo the problem Microsoft has imposed on me EXPECTATION: Microsoft will issue another update to fix the problem (I'm hoping I will be able to say "thank you Microsoft")

Hi mtalbertjack, You cannot connect to the internet through wired LAN connection ?? if yes go to control panel>View update history> Disable or UnInstall any LAN related Updates if installed in ur computer on a date when computer stopped conncted to internet..! you can sort installed updates based on dates , so uninstalling the specified date update from the before date when you computer worked flawlessly ..! you can make your computer to work again ! Hope it helps Thanks, SurenFace the fact tat we all have plenty to learn about this field. Deal wit the failures, use tem as motivation, learn something new everyday. Hey Suren Thanks for your reply. I appreciate your suggestions. I will look at your solution, but if Microsoft caused the problem, I still think it's up to them to UNDO the problem they have created. Clearly I'm not the only person who has been affected by the problem Microsoft has created. Cheers, MtALbertJack

I'm having the same problem, cannot connect to the internet after installing microsoft updates. It was recommended that I do a "system restore" to a date previous to the installation of the updates. This worked, however, if I turn the computer off, I have to perform another "system restore", in order for the connection to internet to function, again. Hope microsoft comes up with a fix soon. This is very irritating.

Go to device manager, expand network devices and check if you have: Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller If so, there's an optional update for this. To install it, remove the last update, and after restart, go to Windows Update. Uncheck critical updates. Check the optional updates and install. Restart. Network shoud be working. Go to Windows Update again, install the critical updates and restart again. Worked for me. Also, if you don't have the Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller, check if there's an optional update to your controller. It looks like the optional update was not that optional. Cheers.

I just did Optional Updates for windows 7. After restart I cannot connect "Wireless-Ly" to my wireless modem from the updated computer. I can connect through many other devices just not the updated computer. Also, The updated computer can connect to other wireless routers just not the wireless modem. I have done all mentioned above. I have deleted saved wireless data. I have tried system but I cannot find a restore point that will work. I was fine before update. I was connected to the wireless modem to download the updates. I can connect through LAN. Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601] Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
