Mobile Device Center wipes existing data on device
I recently upgraded to Windows 7 from Windows XP. I had synced my T-Mobile MDA under XP several weeks ago using the older sync software, and changes to data on the phone and on the PC were merged, as usual. Since then, I had accumulated a fair amount of contacts, files and calendar entries on the phone. So I naively installed the new Mobile Device Center on Windows 7 and connected my phone. Next thing I knew, ALL of the data on the phone was deleted and replaced with data from my new Windows 7 profile which was mostly blank. Everything I had on the phone since my last sync with XP is gone, as in kaput, dead, erased, lost. No warning, no prompts, no nothing. It seems the new sync software only knows how to "sync" one way, and basically does what it pleases regardless of what might make sense. It is truly hard to believe how much harm this sort of thing may have caused to Windows Mobile users (I suppose it is a good thing that there not many of us, relatively speaking, thanks to the quality of Microsoft's mobile "solutions"). But still, I would like the people responsible for this braindead piece of software to be fired if they haven't been already. No warning, no prompts, no nothing. Is anyone out there listening?M.

This is not caused by the WMDC, it should be caused by the incorrect sync partnership you made. If you previously had a partnership in ActiveSync on Windows XP, you will need to re-establish your partnership after an upgrade to Windows 7. Since the Sync Center provides a summary view of any partnership you have created with your PC, including any Windows Mobile partnerships. Windows Mobile Device Center is the application used to create and drill down into your partnerships with Windows Mobile devices. In order to avoid this issue in the future, it's better to establish the correct partnership before syncing your mobile, and get used to the WMDC referring to the following website:http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/v6-0/synchronize-data-with-wmdc_windowsvista-touch.aspx I hope this can help you.
