Mixed network question
If anyone can help me with the basics please as I need to get to grips with Vista: 1. I take it that if I build a new machine running Vista Business, that 3 other XP machines (one a Media Centre 2005 laptop) will all speak to each other on the network? 2. The current main XP machine has a D drive with all the families data on itthat other PC's access. Will Ibe able to transfer all the data files (Word, Excel 2003, Photos etc) to a newly partioned D drive on this new Vista machine and still havethe other XP pc's opening, editingand saving files as normal? I note there is a converter that will allow fully patched 2003 Office programs to open edit and save 2007 versions,I will install this on all other machines. 3. Intuit claims Quickbooks 2005work snormally other than some unsusal features. Microsoft list it as a problem. Could someone explain; if the data file for this resides on the new Vista D drive, if an XP machine opens it and saves it to the D drive, will that work and could either operating system open this kind of data file , save it and another networked version open it and save it?I guess I do not understand if Vista saves a different type(say not NTFS) of data file than an XP machine would. Thanks Phil
