Missing VPN button in lower right corner
Hey,I'm having a problem with Vista Business x64 with SP1.I have created a VPN connection, that has been configured to be usable to all users on the system. The problem is, that the button does not always show up in the buttom right corner, not even when pressing switch user.It shows up if I login as my local user, and then log off, and press switch user. What can be wrong, since it is not showing up before I have been logged in already?

Hi, Before moving on, please confirm the following point. Does the VPN connection icon disappear or VPN menu appear? Given the current stage, I have the following suggestions. 1.Install Windows SP 1 and latest Windows Updates. 2.Check the Notification Area System Icons settings. For your reference: How to Enable or Disable the Notification Area System Icons in Vista http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/106787-notification-area-system-icons.html Please Note: Since the web site is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Hey,Does the VPN connection icon disappear or VPN menu appear? The icon is missing from the login screen all together.1.Install Windows SP 1 and latest Windows Updates. The system is installed from an image from MSDN with SP1 integrated, and all updates is installed.2.Check the Notification Area System Icons settings. The problem is not that related to the icon in the notification area, since thats not the problem. The problem is, that the "Network Logon" button in the buttom right corner is missing from the login screen when I click switch user without having been logged in. How to Enable or Disable the Notification Area System Icons in Vista http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/106787-notification-area-system-icons.htmlAgain, the problem is not about the icons in the notification area, I know how to and and remove those. The problem is related to logging in to a domain using VPN.Here is how to reproduce it:1: Join a domain with a machine, and set up a VPN connection that is avaliable to all users on the system.2: Shutdown the machine and start it up again.3: When asked to do so, press CTRL + ALT + DELETE, and click Switch user.4: Now, look at the buttom right corner, next to the shutdown button, and see that the Network logon button is missing. To work around it, do this:1: Login as a local user.2: Logout.3: Click Switch user.4: Now the button is showing up in the buttom right corner next to the shutdown button. The problem exists both when I'm using a docking station, and when the cable is directly connected to the laptop.

Hi, Thank you for clarifying your problem. I apologize for misunderstanding your situation. I did a test on my test environment, get a similar issue with you: No Network logon button, need logon as a local user and logoff, then switch user to get this button. But, my Network logon button will appear after about 15 seconds. Can you wait a moment to check whether the button appears? If so, the root cause may be Fast Logon Optimization feature, after Windows XP, Windows does not wait for the network to be fully initialized at startup and logon. Regarding the VPN, the network must be fully initialized, the computer needs time to do it. Hope it helps.
