Are you using roaming profile or local profile? Do you redirect the Desktop folder and how do you set it? User profiles in Windows XP and Windows 7 are different. If you use folder redirection, I suggest that you redirect each folder such as Desktop, Favorite, Music, etc, separately.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Hi,
I am using a roaming profile. I am not redirecting the desktop.
After more investigation I have found that Win7 creates a new profile folder with the extension .V2
It appears that XP and win2003 use the original user profile folder (eg.%username%)and win7 uses the%username%.V2 folder.
I have tried tosynchronise the profile folders bychanging the usersroaming profile folder to %username%.V2 but win7 then creates another profile folder. eg%username%.V2.V2
You state that User profiles in winxp and win7 are different.
Does this mean that the behaviour I am experiencing is the norm and win7 will always have a different roaming profile folder?
Please note that I have never use vista.
Thanks for your help
Phil

That is normal behavior. Please see:
Managing Roaming User Data Deployment Guide
If should not be the reasons why roaming profile does not work, unless you found and remove the username.v2 folder before.Arthur Xie - MSFT
