Missing : Windows Authentication in Vista Home Premium
Hello, I am trying to install Performance Point Server 2007 in Windows Vista Home Premium OS. One of the pre-requisite for cofiguration of Vista is to install IIS 7.0. I enabled all the checkboxes under IIS in Control Panel --> Programs and features...I still see a caution icon in the PPS Monitoring Server configuration wizard for iis, when I clicked on details, it said "Missing:Windows Authentication" and I dont see this option under Security. Where can I enable this windows Authentication for Vista ? Please advice Thanks in advance

Hi Windows Authentication is not available in the Home versions of Windows Vista. Please see the following article for a complete list of the components available in the versions of Vista. IIS 7.0: Overview of Available Features in IIS 7.0: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753198.aspx Hope this helps. This is crazy. I have been using Visual Studio 2008 for 2 years on my Vista Home Premium and now today it starts complaining that it can't open projects because they require Windows Authentication. A patch somewhere changed something. This is really annoying!!! Does anyone have a solution?

Here is the error that I got from VS2008. Note that I have had this same configuration for quite sometime and it's been working fine. I use IIS as the web server because I have numerous projects loaded under one web solution and it makes debugging easier. The Web Application Project www is configured to use IIS. To access local IIS Web sites, you must install the following IIS components: IIS 6 Metabase and IIS 6 Configuration Compatibility ASP.NET Windows Authentication In addition, you must run Visual Studio in the context of an administrator account.

Here is what I am trying now: After the error message you should see your web projects under the solution grayed out. 1) Right click a project and choose edit [projectname].vsproj 2) In the XML file that appears search for UseIIS 3) Change the value to False 4) Close the XML file 5) Right click the same project and choose "Reload Project" 6) Double-click "My Project" 7) Go to the Web pane - and wait (in my case VS spins for about a minute before showing me the pane) 8) Select "Use Custom Webserver" and put in the URL to your local webserver 9) Save the pane contents by hitting Ctrl-S (in my case VS spins again for another minute before giving control back) At least now I can see my projects. Now I just need to run tests and make sure that debugging, intellisense, and the code designer files are being generated properly. I imagine I could make this work with Visual Studio Development Server but I am not sure how that integrates with SSL and all the virtual redirects that I use (I keep my dev environment exactly the same as production - except for the OS).

Everything is working. Apparently I just need to lie to VS2008 and not let her know that I am using IIS. Dear VS2008, We have been together for so long. How could you do this to me? I thought we had something...special. I awoke this morning excited about spending some time with you, having a cup of coffee, writing some code, maybe changing the world for a few business users. Now I feel hurt and bitter. My energy is gone, reserves depleted. You betrayed me and stole 2 hours of my morning. Is this about me leaving the laptop lid up last night? You have to talk to me and stop this passive aggressive ____. Or are you jealous of IIS again? I never loved her as much as you and I promise from this point forward to only use Custom Web Server. But you have to talk and hold up your end of the bargain. Debug with me again. Complete and format my code. I am willing to work if you are. -Mark
