Missed Conversations missing in App

If i receive an IM via the Lync Mobile App, and leave it for say 5-10 mintues. When i go to open the App as i see i have a missed conversation. the conversation is no where to be found. This is happening in both O365 and On-Prem.

Anyone else having this issue??

Yes I've seen this behavior.

Even if you send multiple subsequent messages to the mobile client within a few seconds, only the first will get delivered even when you open the within a few seconds. Please also look at my blog post around this subject: Lync Mobile Push Notifications and Message Timed Out

This is because the Lync mobility service sends a notification that you missed a conversation, the conversation itself is not maintained through the push notification channel. To have a conversation through the mobile app, it has to be open.

I agree with you, but unfortunately this is how it currently works

UCWA server maintains a temporary cache of IM invites in case it fails to be delivered to the Lync Mobile client. In case the mobile client is de-hydrated or is in the background and as a result the user is unable to accept the IM invite in time then in case of MPOP scenario the IM invite is auto-accepted at the remote end-point after 15 sec. In case of SPOP the UCWA server will wait for the client to pick up the IM invite up to one min before the IM invite times out and a failure event is sent to the sender. This is also true for the case where the client is going through a temporary disconnect due to network glitch the UCWA server will not auto-accept the IM in any of these scenarios.

In both cases a notification is delivered to the mobile clients via the event channel or Push Notification and in case the client does not connect back to retrieve the IM invite, UCWA Server will log the IM invite as a missed IM invite within its cache and increment the current badge number value that needs to be sent to the client in the next notification payload. The cache will keep up to last 10 IM invites.

These entries from the cache are cleared once the mobile client retrieves it from the UCWA server.

Ya but nothing is received. the missed notification is gone all together as if no IM was sent. This is a big problem for alot of people as the mobility service cant really be a solid peice of communication. Is there anything in the MS realm thats addressing this issue???

I am seeing this on my iphone.  I get the push notifications - but when I actually enter the app I often have no new message whatsoever... and nothing in my convo history when I get back to my computer...

I have found this on every deployment i have found through ones i have done, colleauges, office365. this has to be a bug. im talking with one of my contacts at MS to see if there is talk of this floating around the office.

Just throwing my hat in as well... I'm using the Lync app on an iPhone and experiencing the same issue that has already been described. Hoping someone at MS takes notice and releases a fix. At this point I've just stopped using the app completely because it's better to be unavailable than to miss messages that the other person expects I received...

This still seems to be a bug in the mobile app. we have seen this on multipul on-prem deployments and Office365. Hopefully resolved in CU6? or even Lync 15 :)

Is this still an issue in the latest update?

Thanks for feedback Tim. Santosh has provided a good description of behavior below. However, you should be seeing missed IMs in conversation history once you tap on missed notification count on Lync app tile. It would you be great if  you coudl reproduce this scenraio again on iPhone and WP7 and send me logs at praveenu@microsoft.com. I shall get it looked into.

The logs can be captured using following steps:

Set the Diagnostic Logging to ON

  • Launch Lync app
  • Goto my info page (where you see your picture etc.)
  • From the App bar (bottom of the page), tap on settings
  • Diagnostic Logging on/off (pls set it to On)
  • Go back to my info page (or contacts) and make sure that Lync is connected (best way to confirm this is by sending a test IM to anyone)

Reproduce the issue(s) and send the logs

  • Launch Lync app
  • Goto my info page (where you see your picture etc.)
  • From the App bar (bottom of the page), click on about
  • Tap on send diagnostic logs button which will open the email form (if you choose an email provider)
  • You could send the logs to your support team pls do not forget to attach the log file as an attachment to the email. Lync log file is stored as a JPG file in Saved Pictures folder and the picture is numbered

Thanks & Regards,

Praveen.

Hi,

I face a similar issue. Tapping on a push notification for an IM, takes me to the Lync 2010 app, but no message is displayed. I cant find in the conversation history through Lync desktop app either. I am using Windows Phone 7.

Thanks
