Migrate upgrade to another computer?
If I buy an upgrade version of win 7 and upgrade my laptop, then buy a new laptop, I will throw the old laptop out. The new laptop will already have win 7 on it, so my question is, could I use the win 7 upgrade on my desktop after I throw the old laptop out? Or will the win 7 upgrade by tied to my laptops XP product key, and therefore can't be used to upgrade the desktop?

Your desktop computer will have to have a qualifying version of Windows already installed and activated on it if you want to use your upgrade version of Windows 7 on that new desktop.Having used the Windows 7 upgrade on a previous computer does not matter, as long as it is no longer installed on the old computer.

An OEM version lives and dies with the first computer where it is installed. The copy of Windows 7 should be removed (format the drive) before you discard the laptop just to make sure it cannot be used again. Depending on the time frame, you may need to use the telephone option to activate the upgrade on the Desktop. The information that Proton2 posted is also correct, based on the latest information we have.Hope this helps.
