Microsoft Security Essentials error code: 0x80072efe
I have microsoft security essentials and I tried to update it and got an error message, so i uninstalled and reinstalled it and it worked said I was protected, I could go onto the internet and everything but when I hit the update button it goes about half way and an error message appears that says: MSE wasn’t able to check for virus & spyware definition updates. Make sure computer is connected to the internet (which it was, I was on websites) Error code: 0x80072efe It is like the internet is connected but it will not connect any kind of security application or updater to the actual connection? The problem i was having to begin with is i would start my computer and i would get my wallpaper screen but no icons, so i would keep resterting unitl the icons appeared but then I would connect to the internet and it would say it was on google but the webpage would not show up it just said can not connect to the internet. I was able to finally get google to come up this morning but I still cannot get my MSE to update, goes halfway and then I get the error messgae? Can someone please help me? My computer is Windows XP Service pack 31 person needs an answerI do too

ginettemc,What was the previously installed antivirus ?Did you uninstall it from Add/Remove Programs ?Is a 3rd party firewall being used ?There's also the possibility that there is hidden malware resident on the system. Please run this Kaspersky tool to see if that's the case -How to remove malware belonging to the family Rootkit.Win32.TDSS (aka Tidserv, TDSServ, Alureon)MowGreen Windows Expert IT Pro - Consumer Security

There was no other antivirus installed prior to Microsoft Security Essentials being installed that was uninstalled via Add/Remove Programs ?There is no " regular windows one " that is included with Windows XP.If a 3rd party firewall is not installed, please run the Kaspersky tool to see if there's hidden malware resident.MowGreen Windows Expert IT Pro - Consumer Security
