Microsoft Security Essentials causing numerous BSODs (Windows 7 x64)
Since I ran Windows Update yesterday I had been having random BSODs (Reason: IRQL_GT_ZERO_AT_SYSTEM_SERVICE).
After looking up the system event logs I found that before every BSOD there was a critical error in MSE, it was missing it's filter engine (not entirely sure, since I can not find the log entries anymore since I uninstalled MSE the log entries seem to have
been removed, strange design choice).
After maybe the 5th BSOD in a row and in a very short timespan I decided to remove MSE to see if it resolved the issue, it did. I also found that a file (stylesheet) I was working on was entirely filled with NULNULNUL so I pretty much lost all the work that
went into that. This in particular I find to be very strange, I can't remember having something like that happen since the w2k years running FAT32 disks.
Anyway, I thought it might be helpfull making a note of this issue with MSE here.
Here is the list of updates I installed prior to the problems starting:

Hi,
Out of curiosity. Have you tried reinstalling MSE and if so has it returned to normal functionality?

Not as of yet but I was thinking about it (either that or switching to Avira Free edition, which is a fine product too). I'll reinstall MSE and update this thread with my experiences though I doubt the problems will return.

Has been running for about a full day now. Seems there's no problem with MSE anymore.
