I've tried all of the suggestions here but none worked. Below is the sequence of events that led to this behavior and also the things that I've tried.

1. Initially I have Microsoft 2010 without Lync.

2. Installed Office 2013 with Lync. Lync is working fine but I cannot send message. Whenever I type and hit "enter" the message just disappears.

3. Uninstalled Office 2010 and #2 problem was solved, bravo!

4. Reboot PC but Lync displays error on start up and application cannot be started - "Microsoft Lync has stopped working" - you only get an option to close the program.

5. Uninstalled Lync and install again - did not help.

6. Install Lync client to the newest version as suggested here - did not help.

For the benefit of everyone, I managed to solve above issue by uninstalling a webcam driver.

Thank you. I had the same issue (crashed on start up). Tried everything else, nothing worked. Went in and uninstalled a webcam driver and Lync opened up right away. Thanks for the tip!

For what it's worth, Microsoft PLEASE put some better details in the crash description in your programs. The details provided are cryptic and does not help. This was a super easy fix that should have taken 5 minutes if the crash log mentioned something about webcams or drivers!
