MicroSoft Security Essentials usage
Hi there, I'm using MSE for my home laptop and pretty happy with it. For my work environment, we do have our own AV product but this is server-client architecture. at the moment, there's about 90 workstation in there using that product. now, I know that MSE can only be installed on home pc and small business with <=10 machines. my question is, can I install this MSE on my work laptop? it's not like all 90 of them will be installed with this (maybe 1 or 2). reason is, the laptop will be taken off-site so it won't be communicating with the server. I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this since I can't find a dedicated forum for MSE. thanks !Andrew P.

I think you're missing an important point, see, whatever AV product you'll be using for your laptop, if it will then be plugged onto your corporate network at a certain time, you'll need to ensure it will be "clean" otherwise it will be a possible infection vector for your whole network; in such a spite, I'd suggest you to pick a "corporate AV" which will allow you to have remote updates, even when your "road warriors" will be moving around and which will also allow you to get alerts in case those machines will get infected, not just that, in such a scenario, I'd suggest you to evaluate the adoption of a "NAP" configuration http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/network/bb545879 so that, whenever your "road warriors" will get back home, the PCs will be checked and cleaned/updared before allowing them to access your corporate network; such an approach will reduce the so called "attack surface" and help you keeping your infrastucture wealthy
