Metro-only user interface

Hello

I'm an embedded developer (well the target devices are embedded, not me ;o) and discovered that Windows 8.1 and later versions might be interesting as an OS for developing home automation touchscreen devices.

Will there be a Windows version with only the Metro interface (without the regular desktop) like used on tablets and phones?

Or can it be stripped down to a Metro-only version after installation?

thanks in advance

Hi,

I'm afraid that it's impossible to completely disable the classic desktop, what we can do is booting directly to Start Screen and removing the "Desktop" tile, but user can still easily restore it back or just click "Windows" logo to switch to desktop, it's the design for Windows 8.1.

For more issue about development, I think the MSDN forum can provide more help.

Hmm...it mentions Kiosk mode only for Internet Explorer....well...let's see what Windows 10 brings....

At least the testwise Windows 10 Eval wasn't that convincing for deploying new applications (o;
