It means that Windows was corrupted and/or your hard drive is failing. With no information about the computer and its recent history, that's all I can say. And is the computer working correctly now?MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

This happens to my 'work' pc - and it's only two years old.. What would cause my hard drive to fail so quickly?

Of course I don't know that your hard drive is failing. Maybe Windows is just corrupted. Maybe your computer is infected, you don't shut down cleanly, you have power outages. There is simply no way for me to know what is going on with your work computer since I know nothing about it. However, hardware can fail at any time. A hard drive's lifetime is usually 3-5 years with exceptions at either end. If hardware is going to fail, it will usually do so fairly soon or go for years. But there are always exceptions. Laptop hard drives tend to have shorter lives than desktop hard drives just because laptops move around and are more fragile. But those are generalizations and mean nothing in the face of specific cases.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

Well luckily it hasn't done it since this weekend! My computer is only 18 months old so I'd hate to have it fail now! If it does, hello Mac! I guess I'm going to play it safe and back up files that are important to me. thanks for all the input!

I love my Macs (and am typing this to you on my MacBook Pro), but it is silly to say "hello Mac" about a bad hard drive if you really want to keep using a PC. Hard drives are hard drives whether they are installed in a PC, a Mac, running Windows, Linux, OS X, whatever. My little MacBook's hard drive failed after two years. Replacing a hard drive is no big deal. You can get a 500GB hard drive for around $50. The smart thing to do is be aware that hardware can fail and have good backups. If you waited 18 months to do a backup, you're way overdue. http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Backing_Up MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
