Media player file format change?

Win 8.1 pro with media player

I sync my audio CD's I ripped into Media Player with the Microsoft Zune player. The file format is WMA. I now have a new Ford with Sync player that can connect via USB. The Ford sees the ZUNE and connects/registers files. However, when I try to play through the Ford interface, I get File Protections error (cannot read). I checked with the Ford community and they said WMA  format can/does have file protection. So my question is, how do I turn protection off in media player so I can take my music with me?

Hello John Lenz,

Please share us a screenshot for better analyzation.

DRM stands for digital rights management. DRM is a technology used by content providers, such as online stores, to control how the digital music and video files you obtain from them are used and distributed. Some online stores sell and rent songs and movies that have DRM applied to them. A file that has DRM applied to it is known as a protected file.
For more information, please refer to the following article.

So, if the wma file is protected, it is recommended to contact the content providers.

Here is the DRM question. I have my audio library stored in Media Player. It is synched with the ZUNE. I can play on the ZUNE through my earphones (which I use while traveling on a plane). Since I have a large library (~40 GB), I will not use my phone to listen.

I recently purchased a FORD vehicle that has SYNC software. It says it can connect via USB to a MP3 player and playback through the vehicle sound system. I USB connected the ZUNE and the FORD on-screen display shows reading & registering the content. It is when I try to plauyback in the FORD vehicle that their on-screen display gives the error message, File Protections error (cannot read). This is between the ZUNE and the FORD system. As I stated, the FORD community says WMA has protection and that is how I have ripped my CD's into Media Player. Is there anyway to see how the content is stored on the ZUNE and clear it?

Thanks

Hello John Lenz,

As the SYNC software from the FORD vehicle says it can connect via USB to a MP3 player. It is recommended to contact the software support.

From the article I mentioned in the last reply, the DRM comes from the content provider.
If you need to remove it, you need to contact the provider.

It appears that the Zune will not work with Sync in the Ford. I tried a Sony Walkman  and it functions with the same media downloads. I'll use Walkman for Ford and keep the larger capacity ZUNE for my other travels.
