Maximum internet speed is halved on Win7-64 compared to WinXP-32
The computer is directly connected via a DSL modem with my ISP (DSL 16000). With WinXP-32 (Home) the maximum download speed, e.g. downloading from a high speed FTP server, is about 1,7 MB/s. With Win7-64 (Home Premium) the maximum download speed is about 0,85 MB/s, so 50% less compared to WinXP on the same computer. Those limits are valid for single downloads as well as downloads with different programms and sources. The Mainboard (ASUS A8N-SLI Premium) has two LAN connections (Marvell 88E81001 and nForce4) and with each of them I get the same results (0,85 MB/s max). I used the drivers of Win7 first for both and later tried the 15.23_nforce_winvista64_whql drivers, but nothing changed. Since Win7 is a new, clean install and I use Aviro Pro, malware is unlikely as the cause. I tried it without a software firewall at first and use now CIS from Comodo.

Hi, Please check the following: 1. Boot the system to Safe Mode with networking and see how it works. 2. If there is another Windows 7 computer, please check if the same issue occurs. 3. If it is possible, please try downloading from other sites to have a check. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT

Thx for the help Nicholas, but it turned out that the modem was broken. My new one works on all OS with max speed.
