Mapping NFS file share problems (Explorer Bug?)
Hello All! Well lets get right to it, I come from a mainly *nix background and generally use Windows mainly for work. So far, I have been extremely impressed with Windows 7. I have ~4 exports I would like to map on Win 7. Sometimes, they all map fine (vi explorer). If I make any change to the network connection (unplug/replug) the drives persist, but upon attempting to open them via explorer I receive "an unexpected error has occurred" and an unable to map any drives again until I restart (via explorer). "net use" Still works just fine to map drives after explorer fails to map them. Sometimes, after a restart I can map one drive, and an unable to map any other due to "an unexpected error has occurred" which persists until reboot (via explorer). Hard mounts don't seem to work either, all files are locked and I am unable to access the files since its "in use". (Works on *nix and VMware ESXi) After the a drive is mapped and I don't use it for a period of time, explorer takes forever (forever being ~30s) to recover when attempting to recover the map. The only error in the event logs is due to (1) which occurs every time I map a drive. I'm assuming this is harmless. (Event: 16397) Does anyone have any tips on how to configure this further to improve performance or is the the way its gonna be? (1)I use NFS, server side is set to map all UIDs and GIDs received to map to my UID. (-mapall=me) since Win sets my UID/GID to -2 without AD to set UNIX properties, or set them via the registry.

Which tools do you use to mount the drive? Did you try to use the raw mount: http://sagehacks.wordpress.com/2009/01/21/howto-mount-nfs-shares-under-windows-7/ ? --- Paul Svirin StarWind Software developer ( http://www.starwindsoftware.com )

Hi Os1ris, Quick questions before I look into this deeper. 1) Are you using Win7 Ultimate 32 bit or 64 bit sku ? 2) What command are you using to mount to shares net use or mount? Can you please share the full command ? 3) Can you copy paste the message you get in event log. This is what I tried: 1) net use \\ServerName\ShareName /Persistent:Yes z: 2) Opened explorer and saw the drive mapped and accessible 3) Unplugged and replugged the network cable. Are these the same steps you are facing issue with ? Thanks Frank
