Mappepd Drive Slow to Connect over VPN

After a client connects to the VPN, their mapped network drive can take up to 2min before they can browse it.

The users have 2 network drives mapped.  U-Drive and W-Drive.

U-Drive = \\domain.local\userfolders\%username%  (this is a DFS namespace path)

W-Drive = \\domain.local\Home (this is also a DFS namespace path)

Offline files are enabled on the users U-Drive so that they can access files on the go.  This problem only occurs when offline files enabled on the U-Drive.  I believe the problem occurs because both paths refer to \\domain.local and because offline files are enabled.  I believe this because both mapped drive reference \\domain.local.  I think the W-Drive doesn't connect immediately once the VPN is connected but has to wait until the offline folders mechanism does it's next check to see if network connectivity has been established.

I need to find a solution to this problem.  Can you help out?

Hi,

Yes, your consideration is reasonable. They access the same location and when you enable offline files, it would check the changes and cache the latest version to local computer. It would spend much network traffic. Moreover, VPN connection would slow down the load time of network drive.

In addition, are there a ton of files or folders in the mapped drive? When you try to access a folder that had thousands of files in it and it took a while to index. Once they archived a lot of the files it loaded normally.

Meanwhile, read this article to check your configuration:
