Mapped drive intermittently disconnects
I am a novice to be sure. Maybe someone here can help. I have two computers, one with win7 HP (x64) and one with Win7 Pro (x64). I wanted to share some video files, so I created a mapped drive to a folder on the HP computer (Under public). Then I moved all my video files (30 GB worth) to that folder, and all seemed fine. But when I tried to access them from the HP computer, I could find the folder I created, but no files were in them. I could only see them from the other computer via the mapped drive. So I tried to move them back, but now the connection fails right after I initiate it. If I reboot, it works for about 15 mins, but then the cycle repeats. I have tried many of the suggestions, shutting off Win firewall, etc... but to no avail. Any help appreciated.

Hi, What is the exact error message when this connection disconnected? Currently, it is recommended to test this issue in Safe Mode with networking. Also, please kindly refer to the following link: Mapped Drive Connection to Network Share May Be Lost Hope it helps. I used to get a similar symptoms to you using mapped connection on servers, it might just be the same thing. On the machine hosting the shared folder go to a command prompt and enter the command:- net config server autodisconnect:-1 By default a mapped drive will drop after 15 minutes, this command should prevent that.Alan Moseley

Thank you both. I have tried your suggestions to no avail. I have been told it may have to do with the fact that the hosting computer is W7 pro and the other W7HP. It actually disconnects within a minute requiring a reset of the network adaptor on the W7HP computer which only remedies the problem once or twice before requiring a full reboot of both computers. I hvev someone coming to check it out in a few days and I will post the solution here. Cheers Kurtkurt dahlgren

Well I feel stupid. It turns out the folder I was trying to access was "hidden", problem solved with a simple right click. Just thought I would update in case any others have a similar problem, thanks to all who offered assistance. kurt dahlgren
