Mapped Drive Issue
I have a Vista machine that was mapped to an old server using the W, X, Y and Z as drive designation. I deleted the mappings and rebooted the machine. I went to map the drives to a new server but the Z is not available. I found a technical article at Microsoft that said to use the "net use" command I believe to delete all drive mappings with a wild card. It reported back that the mapping was deleted. I rebooted again and tried mapping the Z drive. It is still unavailable. Where are these mappings stored and how do I delete them? They use Z as their data drive and I don't want to confuse them if possible. I want my Z drive back and I want it to work correctly and show up under My Computer. I have all other drive letters free. I was able to remap the shares to W, X and Y without issue.Thank You, Scott

Hi, Are your trying to map a new server with the drive letter Z? Is it able to map the original old server with the drive letter Z now? Are the other computers able to map the new server with drive letter Z? If all the computers fails, you may check if it is assigned a specific drive letter to the mapped drive on your server in the drive map settings. Old server was mapped for Z. The other machines are XP and Windows 7. They all worked corrctly. With all drives disconnected on the machine Z is not available any more... Somewhere on the machine it is rememberin the old settings. If I cant fix this by Friday I will delete this machine and upgrade to Windows 7. That will fix it...Thank You, Scott

What about to boot in Clean Boot and run the net use command again? To disconnect a mapped drive: 1. Click Start, and then click Run. 2. In the Open box, type cmd. 3. Type net use x: /delete, where x: is the drive letter of the shared resource. After that, restart the computer to retry mapping the new server again. What’s the result? I did all of this before the post. Even it it deletes the Z drive and I can go and map to Z it does not show up under Computer and there is no way to access it. I'm going to wipe this machine and upgrade to Windows 7 over the weekend. I skipped Vista in my own life. I really do not support it because of the issues that were built in by Microsoft. Thank You, Scott
