Map a Network Drive & NetBIOS
I thought that to be able to map a network drive (Windows 7) that I needed to have NetBIOS over TCP/IP enabled. That is how I have been accessing a shared drive on our company file server. However, when I disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP under the network card's IPv4 properties I still can map and access the network drive. This has me confused ... am I wrong and I do not need it enabled? from my opinion, netbios is used as name resolver if Active directory is not present. If you have active directory then either you enable the netbios or disable the netbios does not matter. Because DNS is primary name resolver. and hence in your case even if u enable netbios its still working.
