Map a Net Disk in Windows 7 - How to delay the physical connect ?
To map a net disk is very simple in Windows 7. Unfortunately I didn't found a trick to delay the physical "attach" to the disk itself. My scenario: 1) the win7 machine starts - the mapped net disk is not found on the net (the other machine is turned off) 2) after a while the mapped disk (and the machine on which stays) are turned on 3) after another chunk of time the Windows 7 machine try to use a file on the mapped disk: ERROR --> it's not connected .. This behavior was just fine on a WIN98SE machine (and WIN XP too) because the physical connect to the disk was delayed until the first access at that disk. Is there any workaround to solve my issue ? Many thanks in advance and, please, forgive my rusty english ... Antonio

Where does the file server located? On a network storage device or a computer? If it is on a computer, what is the operation system? I suggest you temporary disable the firewall in Windows 7. If the issue still occurs, please follow the steps below to change the NTLM authentication level in Windows 7. 1. Run gpedit.2. Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa 3. Create a DWORD value under Lsa LmCompatibilityLevel 4. Set the value to 1 5. Restart Then please check the result again.Arthur Xie - MSFT
