I got a malware from a web s.ite--due to Norton cleaning my windows recovery to a previous dae only a day ago--i only had ONE roll back date on my hard drive..i used it---did not remove the malware--which caused hacvoc...using Norton AND mcAfee was able tro contain and delete the offending file... called START-HDDD 9it tells you to BUY it to remove errors IT CREATED.. system was very messed up..several attempts to fix...have gotten me about 75% of nromal....I really do NOt want to do system restore to "factory" specs (losing all my files on hard drive and all downloaded .exe set up progams..etc.... I am using Windows Vista....here are the current issues I have 1) My files all load as HIDDEN and READ ONLY..inlcuding all START UP and folder files--the folders stay hidden and the files are empty--clicking on properties shows the files are there --takes up room--I clicked again on properties on a folder and it showed the file as HIDDEN and READ ONLT--it seems every time I oot up--all my files are invisible...i have to MANUALLY click on them and UNCLICK "hidden" and UNclick "read onlY" and click apply--to restore--the files--when i do that the files appear..and work... how can I correct this permanently? 2) next issue--I did a hardware and memory check --one issue found--only one--says under device manager-- my plug and play hasa defect in module-- ROOT\"ISATAP\008 how dod i fix this? and is this important 3) i WAS getting "write errors" when i clicked anything in windows health check--said error--READ ONLY---the system is reversed---system files are showing as READ ONLY and files I need to see 9like music and video) are hidden or Read only---how do I correct..... i have been able to download, go on line, download progeams, run norton, and access my files--all of them as long as I UNCLICK "Hideen" or READ ONLY--tell me how to fix poermanently WITHOUT having to run complete system restore --again I CANT do a rill back and I already tried "log in using LAST GOOD CONFIGURATION" that did NOTHING to help. I ran a full memory check and there did not seem to be an error...WHILE the MALWARE was in my system---I repeatedly got this ,message-- so I may hve to reset something ? message "CATALYST CONTROL CENTRE ERROR and SYSTEM BLOCKS NOT FOUND/ HARD DRIVE BOOT SECTOR ERROR STORAGE DEVICE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED )(not sure if that is what the malware was saying of if this all was true)

Its probable that bogus antimalware has hidden the files. Check if you have a folder named smtmp in C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Local\Temp. If you have, read about and then run Unhide, scroll down here http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic405109.html Do not delete anything in your Temp folder as this is the likely place that your files have been copied to. If for some reason you cannot run Unhide, scroll down the page a little and make a note of the folders that need to be manually copied back to their rightful locations.
