Malware attack
I have a similar attack going. It either stops access or throws a pop-up over items you are trying to run. All posing as MS Security alerts. Tried to stops access to task manager, but eventually by repetitive tries (about 4-5 hours) I got in. Once there I was able to shut down processes to the point my CPU usage went down and then was able to start tasks : including activate and run Norton and MS malware removal tools and DMS Defender. None have picked up this particular malware, but it is still running and well. Essentially has taken over machine. It is very frustrating. I will try the malwarebytes.org site.1 person needs an answerI do too

You have a similar attack? Similar to what? Since I don't know to what post you are referring, here is general information about removing rogue security programs: Your system is infected with a rogue security program. It is called "rogue" because it pretends to be A Good Guy but is really Evil. Do not pay them! Look for removal steps here Bleeping Computer removal how-to's - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum55.html or here - Malwarebytes malware removal guides - http://tinyurl.com/5xrpft Malwarebytes' Anti-malware (MBAM) or SuperAntiSpyware will often do the job. Both have free versions and you do not need to purchase these programs. These may work for you and all may be well. However, in many cases the computer will also be infected with other trojans and protected by a rootkit. These machines are extremely difficult to clean. If your machine is one of these cases, either get guided help at one of the specialty forums listed at the link below OR take your machine to a local computer professional OR back up your data and do a clean install of Windows. It is your choice. I don't recommend using BigComputerStore/GeekSquad types of places. http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#HJT-links MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

Hello,If you cant get your Task Manager working, you might wanna try the process explorer, its an exe file, no installation required. Get it from,technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspxIf you can find out what is the name that comes up in the pop-up, probably we could narrow down the steps. Try the following steps :-Click Start-> Click Run -> type "msconfig" (without quotes) -> Click on the tab - startup. This should give you the list of start up items. See if you have a any entry similar to the pop-up that you are getting. If you do, you can get the location of the virus from there. You might wanna try these steps in safe mode. If you still face the same issues, provide more info like OS, name of the pop-up, and any other info that you think might be helpful- Mareechan
