The Malicious Software Removal Tool runs automatically once a month during Windows Update. It is a fairly limited tool which looks for a restricted set of malware. If it doesn't find any of those items, it exits. It isn't something you would use for regular protection. When using Windows Updates or Automatic Updates, it will automatically run and you will not get any feedback whatsoever, it runs in quiet mode and then it just deletes itself. After it is finished, it writes the result to a log file.To see the log file, run the following command from Start/Run:notepad %windir%\Debug\Mrt.logMalicious Software Removal Tool explanation - http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx If you are looking for a program to run regularly to give you more malware protection, I recommend the free version ofMalwareBytes' Anti-Malware . Update and run it manually on a regular basis.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

It will NOT replace with your Anti-Virus. You should have Anti-Virus in your PC.However, if you want to access it then go to start and then RUN and then type:mrt.exeAnd press enter.
