Making External Calls using a PIN?

Hi All,

I know that this feature is not used on Lync Server 2010 but I am trying to find a workaround to make this happen. The management of my company wants to have International calls enabled for a couple common area phones. But they want to use a PIN code or password to make an international call and give this code to some specific people. I have HP 4110 common area phones and HP 4120. I've also asked HP if they have a feature to lock the phone so everytime somebody wants to make a call they can enter a code and unlock the phone before they make a call but it's not possible.

I just want to have some advices from you all to make this happen or if it's not possible at all, at least I can convince our management team. Basically we would like to use a PIN code or password to make a call. Is this possible somehow? Maybe using a 3rd party software?

Regards

The only way around that I could think about is to set a dialing rule.

For example, you want to set PIN 1234, so you create dialing rule that will do the following:

You dial 1234011xxxxxxxxx.

The rule will check, if number dialed starts with 1234011, remove 1234011.

I agree with Igor.  This is your workaround, a secret normalization rule.  You have the common area phone use a custom dial plan that will not recognize international numbers dialed normally, then you add a rule that will recognize a pin dialed before the an international number and normalize it to work.  You can set a different pin for each user so you can track who is making the calls from your monitoring server.

Thank you very much for your answers.
This is a great idea. I will try that right away.

Carlos,

The best way to manage that many dial plans would be through PowerShell so you could script it out, but I agree it would be difficult.  Right now, I don't know of a better way to do it.

I'd suggest posting to a new thread to get more eyes on it and explaining what and why you need it.
