MY fat32 xpsp3 setup has 10 instances of explorer that set themselves up in taskmanager, and i watch as new instances of explorer load themselves.
First, let me give a little info on my system setup. I have a tri boot system with the core OS on C: drive as win98se. It's been up, running, and stable since I installed it in 1999. I managed to get my Fireport 40 SCSI card re established for winXP and thus On my E: drive I set up Windows xp - however it failed to format to the NTFS file system so I just left it at fat32. Recently it started developing "do what it wants to do" issues, so I set Windows XP up on my H: drive, this time formatting to NTFS. That system seems to be stable, but I've noticed that no matter which OS I boot to the things that affect the booted OS go and affect the other two OSes as well. Wierd.Anyway, last night I rebooted from my windows 98se system to my winxp fat32 setup and my desktop settings were all screwed, where the icons all lined themselves up to the far left of the screen in a bunched up single line of images, and then I get the webview left hand options bar install itself on the desktop, I was trung to fix that issue when suddenly an error message popped up telling me I already had a toolbar installed and hidden. WOW lol...I opened task manager and WHOA... Ive got 10 instances of Explorer loaded, and watched as another 5 started up by themselves!I instantly hard booted the maching and loaded to my NTFS setup, which I'm on now, and am now here with you folks talking about this issue.Yea, I'm aware that it sounds like a virus, I haven't exhuasted my options yet, This is the first place I went to discuss this, and I'm sure I've got alot of issues to deal with before this is over.Anyone here got any ideas? til then it's off to the registry and all the malicious software removal tools I got. You'd think that with all the security MS has encoded into thier systems that something like this wouldn't happen... Seems like anymore you gotta be an IT professional just to get a system to operate the way YOU want it to!1 person needs an answerI do too
