MS fingerprint reader & Win7
Greetings,I have the MS fingerprint reader and it worked fine on Vista with the Vista driver. I am not able to get it working on Win7 with the Vista driver, but the software does install correctly. Everything seems to work, but I cannot register fingerprints, nothing happens when I put my finger on the reader. Does anyone have a work-around for this? We should either check a fix into the O/S or release a new driver before Win7 ships.~Bear

Have you tried to run the software in Vista Compatibility Mode?Right click on the Executable File. Select Properties. There click the Compatibility Tab. There click the box for Compatibility Mode and select Vista. Now click Apply and run the program. Does it work then?~Alex T.~Windows Desktop Experience MVP~

It may still work. If anything this should allow for fingerprints to be registered. But without a doubt I would gather that a update to the driver and software will be done before the Windows 7 goes final for those devices.~Alex T.~Windows Desktop Experience MVP~

The fingerprint reader should work. I have one installed and it works fine. I installed the latest Fingerprintsoftware from click herefor Windows 7 beta. Please try it! Its available for x86 (32-bit) only!Peter Forster, MVP Virtual Machine, Austria

Related question however - are we going to get 64bit version? I know many people that just throw it away due to lack of 64b drivers.

No announcements have been made around this. But personally I think at latest when Windows 7 will be RTM there will be an x64 Version.Peter Forster, MVP Virtual Machine, Austria

The download specifically lists the comnpatible fingerprint readers that it will work with. It doesn't work with all. RTFM.

Fingerprint Reader is not supported on Windows 7.I'll have to try running in compatability mode, I didn't try that, but the Fingerprint Registration Wizard is just nor recording fingerprints.Arie Slob, MVP, Windows Desktop Experience: Systems Administration

Vista x64 has been out since Jan 2007, yet Microsoft never released a 64-bit driver for their hardware :-(Arie Slob, MVP, Windows Desktop Experience: Systems Administration

I haven't had any problems using the Microsoft Fingerprint Reader in Win7 Beta. In any event, I can't find any Beta 7 software for in on Microsoft's website where I found Beta 7 software for my Microsoft Wireless keyboard and mouse. It is the responsibility and duty of everyone to help the underprivileged and unfortunate among us.

Fingerprint reader works fine if you upgrade from Vista, but a clean install will not allow you to register your fingerprint(s), hence FP won't work.Arie Slob, MVP, Windows Desktop Experience: Systems Administration

MS Fingerprint reader will not work. No beta drivers available. O.K. No Problem. Get a UPEK "EIKON" reader. They even have Windows 7 beta software for 32 and 64 bit available from their website! Retire the MS Reader.

Fingerprint reader works fine if you upgrade from Vista, but a clean install will not allow you to register your fingerprint(s), hence FP won't work. Arie Slob, MVP, Windows Desktop Experience: Systems Administration I was able to install the DigitalPersona Password Manager on a clean install of Windows 7 (32-bit) retail. You can register your fingerprints and use it to log on to Windows: it works just fine. I have documented the process here: blogfeld: How to Use a Microsoft (DigitalPersona) Fingerprint Reader in Windows 7 Hope others find it useful.
