MS Virtual wi-fi: online update offers untrusted driver
I just attempted a driver update of the MS virtual wi-fi adapter in device manager and the result was >>> "Windows can't verify the publisher of the driver software" ??? not even mentioning that there should have been no result as WinUpdate offers nothing at this time. See screen shots http://i349.photobucket.com/albums/q389/fantome_02/virtualwifi1.jpg http://i349.photobucket.com/albums/q389/fantome_02/virtualwifi2.jpg I dismissed the install of course...(no precison was given about the nature or the name of that untrusted driver) edit: I should add that I lost that virtual adapter a while ago (unknown reason and I wasn't using it anyway). And it got probably reinstalled while giving a try to MS FixIt Center beta that brought it back through a maintenance operation on "homegroup" or "networking"...

Hi, The “microsoft virtual wifi miniport adapter” is just a virtual device and it is related to a new feature in Windows 7, Wireless Hosted Network: About the Wireless Hosted Network At this time, please check the website of the wireless NIC’s manufacture and see if there is a new driver which is for Windows7; or you can let us know the brand and model of the wireless NIC. Considering this is also related to the specific device, for more information, you can also contact their support. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT

I don't actually need the virtual wi-fi adapter, I was only wondering why an attempt to update its driver led to such a result. Makes sense when one considers it's just an extension of the real wi-fi adpater. Mine is up to date btw (through Windows Update), no problem on that side. But thanks for your reply and the link to the documentation about Wireless Hosted Network, that's interesting.

Hi, If the virtual is not need, you can disable it with running the following command in an elevated command prompt: netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=disallow Hope this helps. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT
