MS Security Essentials - How reliable?
Security Essentials is more geared towards homeowners and not networks. if your considering it I would recommend installing in a test enviroment, or on a single machine and see if it has the functionality that your network needs

Is it reliable as a replacement to something like Norton or McAfee? My Norton subscription has ran out and I'm wondering if I should renew it or maybe stick with this. My general thoughts are thinking to buy a new Norton subscription though. I see it is regulary updated, but just the other day my Mum who relies on MSE had a virus slip right through.

Hi, I've had good experiences with it - especially when combined with Malwarebytes. It's not guaranteed that any one application will detect every virus but I've found it to be quite successful. It also has a good real time scan. I wouldn't use if for large installtions though as I'm not sure the licence will cover it. I think it can only be used for up to ten computers. For greater than ten computers it would be best to use something like microsoft Forefront. Hope this helps, CathalCathal O'Brien BSc, PgDip, PhD . Techsmart Computer Repair
