MS Lync settings and cache files and user names, Mac OS 10

Hi,

we're using MS Lync for Mac (14.x) and we have had som problems with it when migrating/reconstructing user accounts. The reason for the user account migrations/reconstructions has been two. Either it has been local users that has gotten the content of their user folders moved from a local account to a mobile Open Directory account (migrated on the client) and with home sync or it has been a bunch of accounts that became corrupted when a long due MOSX server update was done (10.6.8 -> virtualised 10.9.x and Server 3.2.x).

The procedure for the migrations has been:

* OD account has been created on the server.

* The local user folder has been renamed (since the ones doing it was comfortable with the matching of mobile OD account and an already existing home folder.

* OD account has been logged in on the client and downloaded so there is an empty cached account.

* Content of the renamed home folder has been moved to the new cached OD folder and owner has been corrected if needed.

The procedure for the reconstruction of accounts.

* Rename the existing home folder

* Delete account

* Create new account with the same user name and meta data

* Copy the content of the renamed folder into the new, by the system created home folder, of the the new working OD account.

This usually works fine but it seems that every time the user name has been changed (so that the home folder and path to everything in there changed) MS Lync stops working for that user. If started from another user it works so I guess there's something in the user folder that doesn't work with new name of the user folder (user ownership should have been corrected but I'm not totally sure if only Unix ownership was corrected or if there could be some lingering ACLs that has the wrong user mentioned). That brings me to the actual question:

What files and caches are there that MS Lync uses that we might have missed to remove (e g three .plist files in ~/Library/ and some in ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/)?

Hi,

To perform a clean uninstall of Lync for Mac 2011, follow these steps:

  1. Log on to your computer by using administrative credentials.
  2. Exit Lync if it's running.
  3. Drag the Lync application to the Trash.
  4. To remove your existing Lync preferences, delete the following files:
    • Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.Lync.plist
    • Users/username/Library/Preferences/ByHost/MicrosoftLyncRegistrationDB.xxxx.plist
    • Users/username/Library/Logs/Microsoft-Lync-x.log

      Note
This file is present only if you turned on Lync Logging.
    • Users/username/Library/Logs/Microsoft-Lync.log
  5. To remove all Lync files from your computer, delete the following folders in the Users/username/Documents/Microsoft User Data folder:
    • Microsoft Lync Data
    • Microsoft Lync History

Note If you delete the Microsoft Lync History folder, you delete all conversations that are saved in the Conversation History.
  6. In the Applications/Utilities folder, open Keychain Access.
    • Delete any keychains on the left that resemble OC__KeyContainer__<email address>.
    • In your Login keychain, delete the <your email address> certificate.
  7. In the Users/username/Library/Keychains folder, delete all the files that resemble OC__KeyContainer__<email address>.

See the following table for more information about the path locations that are used in Lync for Mac 2011:

Folder path Description

Users/Home Folder/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Microsoft Lync History Contains conversation history for the user currently logged in.
Users/Home Folder/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.Lync.plist Contains application preferences for Lync.
