MS Forefront License question

The server we have was used for Exchange but we have moved to Office365, so the server now is only used as a file server. The license we had is:

5FD-00058  Microsoft Frfrnt Prtcn Exchange Svr Sngl Monthly Subscriptions-VolumeLicense Open Value 1 License No Level Additional Product
Per User 1 Month. We had purchased a QTY of 45 of this. Since this is only used as a file server now (Still Running Server 2008 SBS), do we still need this?

Hi,

Thank you for your post here.

A little confused, if you do not use FPE any more, you do not need the license. If you have any other limitation, please feel free to contact us.

Hi,

Forefront Protection for Exchange is a malware scanner and antispam system for Exchange. It does not scan a fileserver against malware. So if you don't have an onpremise Exchange Server you don't need FPE anymore.

By the way, as far as I know you can't buy FPE anymore.

Greetings

Christian
