Hi, OK, I read carefully everything I found there and on "MS Answers". No one KB or "solution" applies to my situation, nor for first posts from predecessors, who come with a same: MS Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 is dropping time-to-time (from twice per hour to once per two hours) from HID (?). All appearances I found in the Net, and mine too, are with notebook computers, with "integrated" combo WiFi/Bluetooth adapter from Broadcom -- in my case it is Broadcom BCM2070 Bluetooth 2.1+EDR USB Device. Unfortunately, it seems Lenovo not count seriously their products (tech support just formal), Broadcom even have not an option for support for end-users. So. By long-way discovering of problem's origin, I make a decision about some "hang" between Bluetooth Support Service in W7 and device's internal "power saving" feature or something equal to it. In another words, then mouse software counts some period of inactivity (while typing, for example), it sends to a Service somewhat about "wake me up"/"I am awake". Exactly at this point trouble occurs: if you remember Win95/98 screen saver problem -- after some countdown screen saver appears regardless on user activity just few nano seconds before countdown ends, and you were dropped into dark screen. Going to MS recommended "Enable Bluetooth Devices in Control Panel for your mouse or keyboard " will will even bigger trouble: after changing "Bluetooth Support Service" owner/logon to to "Local System account" you will lost control of all bluetooth devices forever after system restart. In this case, it seems, there are only one pair of possible solutions: - continuously send "are you still there?" from working notebook to the mouse -- it can updated from MS update by driver update; - rewrite mouse internal code (and test it not only for "working", but for "sometimes idle" regime too). And, explain me, please, WHY it is so hard to add this mouse to IntelliPoint's list? Because it is Bluetooth-based? Why we need some additional radio on our notebooks to connect a mouse (another radio mouses supported) while we have enough transmitters in our computers already? Let's write on this mouse package: "Not supported with IntelliPoint, remapping of button it is not possible". Have you updated the BIOS and the Management Engine Interface and the Chipset? Anyway, you can make the system more stable. But, it seems the notebook is ok. Nice computer! Let's look at the bluetooth setup. In general, You switch on the wireless switch on the front and hit Fn + F5 and then turn on the mouse for pairing. (Push the red button) Once it is paired, the Intellipoint software can be used. Here's what I found for a Wireless Laser Mouse 5000. (Win7x64) http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/download/DownloadResult.aspx?category=MK&type=Mouse&name=63A-00001&os=Win7_64&lang=en OK. One more item. From device Manager, select the bluetooth device, right-click for properties, power management tab and uncheck allow the computer to turn off this device. select ok. That may stop the device from turning off. Another way would be to change the power plan, Start\Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options, select more options for your power plan, select advanced options, expand the wireless device catergory and configure the bluetooth radio using that method. I would say it is the power saving features of Win7 causing the drop-out. Try one or both of the above items for changing the power control of the bluetooth radio. One more item, you do have fresh batteries in the mouse, correct? ;-)

As for power savings on Lenovo side -- already configured, but there is no any Bluetooth power management in the power schemes (Wireless present, but not Bluetooth). But I like your idea very much and I'll double check for such options around. It will be pleasantly surprised if IntelliPoint accepts my rodent. I'll be back and will report the result. Hi, So, after applying updates you found (thank you very much there), and tune-up of power saving options, it seems mouse's problem with lost connection is gone -- at least last time it was happened was right before updates. BTW -- Lenovo's way of updating is wrong -- every one updating process finished with W7 message about compatibility problem, but in real there are not any issue. But. IntelliPiont is still not working -- there are not "Wireless" tab on mouse properties, "Buttons" tab is disabled and IntelliPoint stays "There are not any USB mouse". Of course, there are not any USB mouse, it is Bluetooth wireless! :) It seems MS Wireless Mouse 5000 is not correct setting there, but I can not access drop-down menu with list of devices -- it is grayed out. Hi, A pesky rodent indeed! I have viewed any available product documentation and read me(s) for the Laser Mouse 5000 and Intellipoint. The only conclusion I can arrive at is this: Multiple radios are needed. It appears the Intellipoint software is looking for devices connected on the usb port. Meaning, you need to use the radio (transceiver) that was supplied with the mouse. This kb article says "connect the receiver to the usb port" (#4 in the last section) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/258785/en-us I did not see any MS product without a transceiver. So, it would seem that you need a different rodent to avoid using two radios with the Intellipoint software. Try a Logitech product. The V470 & M555b connect via Bluetooth and have nice features. Many of Logitech's products require a transceiver, although they now have a nano transceiver, which looks like a nub when connected. So, the answer is Intellipoint will not find the rodent without the transceiver.

I did not intend to imply that a bluetooth mouse would not connect to an internal bluetooth network adapter. So, does that mean your model did not include the usb bluetooth dongle when purchased?

Hi, There was not any external USB radio included with this mouse. As MS stays "You do not need any external Bluetooth adapter with this device" and it was only reason I buy it: it is very bad to have something extending out of a laptop case if you are on the move. So, after reading you post, I made a test with external USB dongles. IntelliPoint do not recognize them. And this KB's sentence is the low: IMPOSSIBLE to use external dongle with MS Nt Bt 5000. Huh. And, more then that, I was leading me to... reinstalling Windows, thanks to Lord, -- from recent backup, but Broadcomm's on Lenovo incompatibility is not issue for Microsoft, you see. This seems so strange. I feel like I missed something. Problem: mouse connection drops The notebook should have no connectivity issues. The mouse is Windows 7 compatible. No external dongle needed. So, after making the connection with the mouse to the computer, is the mouse displayed here: Start\Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers? Is yes, right-click the mouse and select mouse settings. That will configure mouse buttons. (So, uninstall Intellipoint) Windows power management settings did not help. Fresh batteries in the mouse did not help. The wireless switch is on and FN + F5 is used to configure the bluetooth device when connecting it. I also noticed an energy management button on G560, second in from left near the screen above the keyboard. What does this do when you press it? Does it provide an always on mode or performance option for the notebook? Perhaps the Lenovo energy management is turning off the bt radio and dropping the mouse connection because it is an energy saving option. Does the mouse connection drop occur at other physical locations? There may be some type of radio interference at the current location. So much for a rodent! I am out of ideas for this cheese eater.

All my games with IntelliPoint caused just / exactly with absence of reprogramming buttons of this mouse in Windows: only thing you can do is to swap left and right buttons. Current driver has not any option to handle reassignment of buttons for mouse 5000. So, I involved you into discussion about IntelliPoint's features. Trying to use external dongle was a way to force IntelliPoint understand the fact mouse is connected, but not to connect it! Let's make it clear: The first, main question, described in subject is SOLVED. Additional, beneath you first reply -- not, and, it seems, can not to be resolved at this time.
