MSE -install - Firewall??
I realise that MSE comes without a firewall.I have done installs for family and a couple of friends and I cannot for the life if me remember what happened re the firewall.I sent the link to an old friend for the MS site 'how to install WSE etc etc' and he has replied that the video mentions nothing about replacing the firewall which will go when Norton is removed. He has WIN XP SP3 with his current AV suite, so when uninstalled, firewall will, I suppose, go as well.So far I have told him to dll MSE to the desktop, disconnect from the net - remove Norton - close all running progs and install MSE. After install check in the Security Centre to see if all security is ON, including the firewall before he reconnects to the net to get the updates. When I last did it, some months ago, there was free AV plus ZA firewall on that computer. But I cannot remember how I handled the firewall aspect. I dont remember getting anything extra. So will the WIN Firewall auto engage when it is realised by the Security Centre that there is no firewall in place. I did remove the AV and ZA before installing.I have had a trawl through the forum but did not spot any reference to the firewall.Damn memory - I can go back 30 -40 years and recollect in detail - I have to rely on the wife to remind me what she told me to do last week.RgdsDamascus 1 person needs an answerI do too

The Windows Firewall should turn on by itself but if it doesn't, have your friend start the service (if necessary) and go into the Windows Firewall applet in Control Panel to make sure it's on and there is nothing listed on the Exceptions tab that shouldn't be allowed.Start>Run>services.msc [OK]MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

Good day madamI see in here you have a small addition to your name - but it is reassuring to see you along with the great.Thank you for the reply - I was pretty certain that I did nothing and that it was an auto reaction. When I have in the past upgraded ZA, I tended to remove ZA first and the firewall has always engaged. After install they swapped places.Thank you for the confirmation. I will tell my friend to pay aprticular attention to this point.RgdsDamascusNews groups - R.I.P.
