MSDN Subscriber Download disappears (almost)
I downloaded the ISO image for Win7 X86 Enterprise from MSDN Subscriber Downloads. I set the target directory to C:\ on a Win7 Home machine. Using the download manager, the file completely transferred, as indicated by the progress bar (time about
20 minutes) and it was validated. When I looked for the file in C:\ using both command prompt and Windows Explorer it could not be found nor could I find it with a file search on "*.iso" for all of the C drive. But when I used the "ls" command
in C:/ of a Cygwin/bash shell, the file was present and I validated its SHA1 hash using fciv.exe.
I'm struggling to understand how Windows tools can create a file that becomes invisible to all other Windows tools but can be seen with a 3rd party tool. This problem has the potential to fill the file system with "invisible" files. Note: the
problem was repeated in 2nd attempt.

I found my ISO files via serendipity. I clicked on "Compatibility files" in Windows Explorer and my two ISO files appeared alone in the Window. Neither Windows Help nor googling gave me a useful explanation of what compatibility files
are and how they're supposed to "benefit" me so can someone tell me what's going on? On the face of it this seems like an insane feature that tries to outguess me WRT what I want to do with my files. Can I disable this feature? -- it certainly
hasn't been helpful to me -- hours of bewilderment down the drain.
