MS11-039 (KB2478662) Causing apps that utilize .NET to crash
This is only happening on one machine. I have many Win7 Pro machines with this update successfully installed and no issues. Performing a system restore that I made before the installation fixes the problem on the machine in question. A number of apps running on this machine utilize .NET in some fashion and all of them crash (Peachtree Accounting Software, NETsatisfaxtion Pop-up notifier, IAStor - Intel's Storage monitoring software) in spectacular fashion. After installation and seeing all the programs failing to start, I ran SFC /scannow and looking at the generated log, it found corrupted files that it could not fix: C:\Windows\winsxs\msil_system.xml_b77a5c561934e089_6.1.7601.17514_none_55fc822005f63b82\System.XML.dll & C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\System.XML.dll Scratching my head and moving onto something else for the time being. Anybody else having a similar problem with the update?

Hi, First, you can go to Start menu -> Control Panel -> Uninstall a program -> Turn Windows features on or off to repair the .NET Framework: 1. Check whether the checkbox of the .NET Framework 3.5.1 has been selected, if so, un-select the check box, click OK and restart computer; 2. Open the Turn Windows features on or off window again, and select the checkbox of .NET Framework 3.5.1, click OK, restart computer to check the result. If this issue persists, you may try to replace the file with a known good copy of the file, please kindly refer to the last paragraph of the following article: How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7 Hope it helps.
