Lync contacts synced to Outlook do not go away (in Outlook)

Lync 2013 servers, Exchange 2010 servers, Outlook 2010/2013 client (doesn't matter which version).  When a Contact is created in the Lync Client, the contact is shown in the (now), Skype for Business Contacts in Outlook in a very short time.  When I remove the contact on the Lync client, the synchronized contact in Outlook doesn't go away.

I realized I can use OWA to get rid of the contact, but that is not an enterprise solution as this contact issue is global with all users.

Do we have something set up incorrectly, or is this by design?

Hi rmr1r,

No, it is not by design.

In order to handle Exchange contact sync, Lync client needs to connect Exchange through EWS.

So if the EWS connection is established, the feature should work.

In your case, it does not seem like a configuration issue.

If you do not apply the latest updates for the Servers(Exchange & Lync Server) and clients (Lync 2013 & Outlook 2010/2013) , I suggest you should try it.

Best regards,

Eric

Hi Eric,  the sync is working in as far as what I stated (the Lync contact does go into the Skype for business contacts folder in Outlook.  It just doesn't get deleted when I remove the contact from Lync.  EWS is the connection method and is working properly.

We do have all the latest updates for Exchange, Lync and the client software (Lync and Outlook).

It should be working. I tried it in my lab and took around 5 minutes for the contact to disappear from my Outlook>Skype for Business Contacts.
