I have been testing out the Surface Pro 2 with 8.1 Update 1 with Lync 2013. We use the Desktop Lync 2013 app exclusively. How do you get Toasts or any kind of notification while on the Modern UI or Lock Screen? Like I cell phone, I should be able to answer calls from the lock screen on the surface pro.

As I know, if you use desktop Lync 2013 app on Surface Pro 2 you cant receive notification while on the Modern UI or Lock Screen. You can try to download Lync app in Windows store and have a test.

Outlook 2013 desktop client can get notifications. The Lync 2013 desktop client should also. I find the Modern UI one very frustrating when you are working on multiple documents and want to chat with someone. I keep loosing a whole screen because of the Modern UI taking over. Very annoying.
